Tibia fractures, or shinbone fractures, are a common injury in children. The tibia is the larger of the two long bones in the lower leg and bears most of the body weight. Most breaks occur in the middle of the tibia (tibial shaft), but they can also occur in the upper (proximal) or lower (distal) sections.

It takes a significant amount of force for a tibia fracture to occur, and it is the most commonly fractured long bone in the body. These fractures are classified based on their location, pattern, and exposure of the fracture site. Examples include transverse, oblique, comminuted, spiral, and open fractures.
