Hip arthritis is a common cause of chronic hip pain and can be treated with total hip replacement surgery. A minimally invasive approach has been developed that uses one or two smaller incisions instead of one long incision.

Advantages of the Minimally Invasive Approach

  • Less muscle dissection.
  • Minimal pain.
  • Faster recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Shorter hospital stay.
  • Less trauma to surrounding tissues.
  • Less blood loss.
  • Less scarring.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Hip Arthritis

The most common symptom is dull pain and stiffness in the joint, which can cause limited mobility and limping. The pain may be felt in the groin, thigh, and buttock area, and may radiate to the knee. Diagnosis involves evaluating symptoms, medical history, a physical examination, and X-rays. MRIs and CT scans may also be used.
